Custom Quilting

Custom longarm quilting is a personalized quilting service that goes beyond basic edge-to-edge patterns. Instead of using a single repeated design across the entire quilt, custom quilting tailors the designs to enhance specific elements of your quilt top—such as blocks, borders, sashing, and appliqué. Each section of the quilt can have its own unique quilting design, carefully planned to complement the piecing, fabric, and overall theme.

  • Block-by-Block Design: Each quilt block can be quilted with a different pattern chosen to highlight the block's shape or fabric.

  • Detailed Borders & Sashing: Borders and sashing areas are treated individually with designs that frame and enhance the quilt’s structure.

  • Background Fill: Intricate stitching in the background areas (like pebbles, swirls, or feathers) adds texture and dimension.

  • Precision Work: Custom quilting involves meticulous planning and control, using hand-guided or digitally assisted methods to place each stitch with care.

  • Artistic Expression: This is where quilting becomes art. The quilting design works in harmony with your quilt top, creating a cohesive and elevated final piece.

Elements of Custom Quilting:

...I hired Amy Mikeska to work her magic... having seen her previous work on a friend’s quilt. I was not disappointed. Her design and craftsmanship are amazing. Every time I look at the quilt I find a new and enchanting element. Amy not only fills the spaces between my appliques but she created new shapes within the quilt design. Her attention to detail is evident in the tiny circles in the princess feathers and the many patterns she employed inside the quilt as well as the piano key border. I’m getting rave reviews from friends and fellow quilters who appreciate good quilting. I can’t wait to see what Amy does on my next quilt.
